NIISQ Psychologist Brisbane
CFHP provide Brisbane psychology and counselling services for NIISQ participants to receive mental health support and treatment for coping with injuries.
The National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland (NIISQ) allows those who have sustained a severe personal injury from a motor vehicle accident to access funded care and treatment for rehabilitation. If you are an eligible NIISQ participant, our team of psychologists can provide psychotherapy treatment to help you cope with the psychological burden of your injury and move forward to recovery.
How NIISQ Psychology Services Can Help
Disability, chronic conditions, and injuries resulting from a motor vehicle accident can significantly affect an individuals’ mental and emotional health. Not being able to engage in activities at the same level as before can be incredibly frustrating, resulting in feelings of dissatisfaction, anxiety, and overall poor mental health. The memory of the accident can also result in psychological trauma, causing symptoms like panic attacks and excessive fear to develop.
NIISQ psychology services provided by registered psychologists allow individuals to find relief from the psychological trauma of the accident and its outcome. NIISQ psychology treatment is focused on:
- Creating a safe space — Helping individuals feel grounded in the present instead of being pulled back to the moment of the accident.
- Awareness and acceptance — Minimising feelings of guilt, anger, or anxiety by accepting the current situation.
- Self-care — Learning how to be kind to oneself by taking the time to rest and recuperate.
- Therapy support — providing emotional and mental health support strategies to cope with disability or physical conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can NIISQ and NDIS funding be applied together?
NIISQ and NDIS funding can be used by eligible participants to access CFHP’s psychology and counselling services. However, we typically recommend that individuals check whether their conditions are suitable to receive funding for counselling services — the NIISQ Agency assesses each participant’s need for treatment and care on a case by case basis.
Can NIISQ participants under the age of 18 access psychological support?
Different eligibility criteria for NIISQ apply to participants under the age of 18. We advise checking with the NIISQ Agency to determine whether psychological support coverage is available. CFHP can offer NIISQ counselling services for teens and adolescents who are eligible participants.
